Question and Answer with Rich

What accomplishment are you most proud of: Saving an individuals life who was suffering cardiac arrest. That very specific moment lead me to the field where I now currently work.

When you're not racing, you like to: Seek out and enjoy the best tasting Mexican food I possibly can find, then blog about it. After many long years away from the musical field, I recently went back to one of my first original loves, that being playing the drums. I also love attending live musical events & concerts whenever I can as well.

What's the craziest experience you've ever had with XTERRA (traveling, racing or training)? In 2007, after the German Championship race that was held in Titisee, I was hanging out in a basement discotech at 3am, with Kahuna Dave, Jan Sibbersen, Nico Lebrun, and a few others. We were all happily enjoying the music and fine German spirits, until rather abruptly, it was time to leave. That's all I'll say!

What's the best thing about racing? Being able to capitalize on some really good training, which ultimately leads to a very successful athletic performance come race day. What an incredible triumphant feeling! Oh and I almost forgot to add as well in that, racing affords you the opportunity to hang out with some of the most amazing people too!!

What is the coolest piece of gear you own? My Giant XTC 29ER 1 mountain bike, size XL, outfitted with American Classic 29ER tubeless ready wheels.

Role model/Inspiration/Favorite athlete: Maui resident Capt. Steve Fisher. Steve has many impressive athletic accomplishments to his credit, but his deep devotion to taking on challenges, and doing them so in an interesting manner, is what really makes his individual efforts inspirational to me.

Which XTERRA races do you plan to attend? Guaranteed races on my schedule so far are - King of the Hill, East Championship, Race at the Rez, Appalachia, and Maui.

Favorite XTERRA venue: The World Championship course in Maui.

Dreaded XTERRA venue: None.

What's your favorite aspect of XTERRA? The one main thing that keeps me wanting more and more, is the overall toughness of it all. It never gets an easier, and that's just the way I like it!

Define / describe XTERRA: XTERRA off road triathlons for me are the bar... the standard I use to gage overall toughness in every other one of life's little challenges that are thrown at you daily. Through my own active participation in XTERRA, I say "bring em' on!"
