2006 Boney Mountain ScrambleThe first annual XTERRA Boney Mountain Scramble (a bona-fide butt kicking, heart wrenching, and endorphin producing trail running race) hits L.A. on Saturday, September 30th. For the first time EVER, Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa National and Pt. Mugu State Park is allowing an organized trail running event to take place in this pristine location. The line-up for Saturday consists of two events, a 6K and a 21K half-marathon. The 6K-race takes runners along Sycamore Creek, zig-zagging throughout the creek bed all the way up. The half-marathon is one of the toughest around -- 90% of the course consists of single-track trails and with an elevation of 2,000+ feet, it gives new meaning to the phrase “runner’s high”. Forget running in circles around a track, monotonous treadmill workouts, or killing your knees on the pavement! Come out to the Western edge of the Santa Monica Mountains; traverse beneath some amazing rock faces and past historic Indian lands spiced with spectacular ocean and mountain views. We challenge people to get back to nature, breathe some fresh air and remember just how good it feels to RUN WILD! Boney Mountain is the third race of five in the hugely successful XTERRA So-Cal Scramble Series. Runners can expect well-stocked aid stations, offering everything from Gatorade and Gu Shots to Clif Bars and verbal encouragement. Guests will be greeted by the smell of gourmet coffee and fresh cooked eggs (scrambled of course) – even if you’re not a runner, it’s one of the best breakfasts in town! Post-race enjoy a massage, complimentary refreshments and raffle prizes. Awards are given to the overall male and female winners as well as the top 3 males and females for each age group. Proceeds from this event go to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Founded in 1901, the hospital has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century. Course map, directions, registration info, and further information can be found on the race website, http://www.trailrace.com. The XTERRA Boney Mountain Scramble race also offers a Youth Outreach Program. The program focuses on introducing 12 to 17 year old students to the California State Parks and trail running. Event Date/Times: Saturday, September 30, 2006 We recommend that runners arrive 1 hour prior to their race time to allow adequate time for parking, packet pickup and warm-up. We will be operating a FREE convenient shuttle service in the parking lots to the race start. Directions: This race is held in Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa National Park and Pt. Mugu State Park. The race start is off Wendy Dr. and Lynn Rd in Newbury Park approximately 28 miles from the intersection of US-101 and I-405. It is approximately 10 miles South of Oxnard on US-101. Parking is at the Newbury Park First Christian Church at the intersection of Lynn Road and Wendy Road. Registration: From September 1 - September 28: Event Day registration (space permitting) is $5 more for each Runners in the half-marathon race accumulate points towards the coveted crown of XTERRA Scramble® So-Cal Champion. When the Series is complete, the top 5 point-scorers in each age group are invited to compete against each other in the 2007 XTERRA Scramble® USA Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. |
