The Nation Runs Wild For XTERRA ScramblesThe XTERRA Nevada Scramble® finds its way to Incline Village in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on Saturday, September 30th for the inaugural USA Scramble® Championship. Runners from California to Maryland have been “Scrambling” since April in regional point-series races to qualify for a spot in the Championship bracket. However, this 5K or 10K trail running race is open to EVERYONE who wants to refresh their adventurous spirit! We challenge runners of ALL ages and abilities to lace up their sneakers, take in nature’s fresh air and experience just how good it feels to RUN WILD. The breathtaking course for the Nevada Scramble® is the exact running leg that professional multisport athletes will traverse the next day for the XTERRA National Championship. It takes competitors through the pristine conifer forest, where pines and cedars perfume the air and serve as a canopy in the heat. With more twists and turns than a James Bond flick, the tight and numerous switchbacks allow runners to see what their competition is up to. Splashing through glacial creeks, balancing along narrow log and rock crossings, and skipping over boulders are just a handful of the elements Mother Nature will throw out. The applause from the crowd at the finish line offers relief to the 5K runners who end the journey here. The 10K runners cross the same area but continue on for a second loop around – using the cheers as it as extra boost as they retrace their steps. Proceeds from this event go to the Incline Village American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), giving kids a positive environment to “kick it”. The top three competitors in each division are awarded medals. In addition, Hawaiian Airlines is awarding the fastest 10K female runner a Roundtrip Airfare to Hawaii! So “Wahine holo nui” which is Hawaiian for, “run fast young lady”!

XTERRA OFF-ROAD SPORTS FESTIVAL
The XTERRA Nevada Scramble® is just one in a host of fun activities going on at Incline Village the weekend of Sept. 30th – Oct. 1st. Located at the Village Green in Incline Village, visitors to the XTERRA festival will find big white tents filled with everything from the latest in XTERRA Gear to the new Nissan Xterra SUV. It’s headquarters for all the outdoor action, and a great place to spend some idle time after running in the 5k or finishing up a big plate of BBQ. There’s music playing, prize giveaways, kids games, and all the buzz one could imagine from a rockin’ outdoor EXPO. On Sunday you can watch the pros and hard-core adventure seekers battle for the title of Nissan Xterra USA Champion in the XTERRA off-road multisport challenge. Or, go see the other pros (the stylists at the Paul Mitchell tent), where you can get a free haircut in exchange for a donation to the Challenged Athletes Foundation. The XTERRA philosophy “Live More” plays into every event initiated and produced. “We are a world community, accessible to anyone with enough heart and determination to defy physical difficulty…we are brought together by a shared challenge and we are forged in spirit, friendship and respect”. |
