Welome to the Tahoe First Timers

By Jen Trapp, Assistant NXPS Manager

We all know Billy Anderson, Barbara Peterson, and Tom Lyons - but what about some of the newbies that will be making their first trek to Tahoe?

Dereck Treadwall - First race was at the Long Trail STOAKED ORT in New Hampshire.  He was 51st out of the swim, passed over 20 people on the bike to have the 3rd best time, and then had the fastest run by 3 minutes - came in 3rd overall.  At Schiff Scout he was second overall to Mike Nahom and his run was only 6 seconds slower (Mike won the run preem at Richmond 3 years ago- beat out all the Pro's)  Watch him in the 30-34 year old men's group!

Kristin Jo Markham - I remember at the South East Championship that instead of being stoaked she won her age group, she was bummed cause she was the only one in it - not really winning she thought!  Well, she went on to win her age group (with other people in it) at 2 other races and now will show up in Tahoe to collect her Regional Champion Jersey and compete against other girls for the 20-24 age group title!

Along with these two - there are over 75 athletes competing in Tahoe who did their first XTERRA in 2006!  Some are roadies checking out the awesome XTERRA scene, some are mountain bikers who can swim, some are completely new to multisport - a totally diverse, eclectic, and above all - FUN mix of people.  If there was one thing I would say to everyone - new and old alike - make sure you take the time to say hello to the athlete next to you in transition / registration line / Night of Champions Dinner / Cutthroats Bar.  The friends I have made and that I know you all have made, are ones that you will always remember.  It is a race, but it is also life - enjoy it and Live More!
