The Crème de le Crème of Trail Running

The XTERRA Malibu Creek Trail Run returns to on May 12, 2007 for its 6th year running.  Nearly 700 runners are expected to toe the start line – anxious to taste what Mother Nature will bring to the table this year.  Set in the ruggedly striking Santa Monica Mountains, a host of hill climbs and breathtaking views is just the beginning…

Competitors choose between two distances: 4-mile or 14-mile, both steering runners through a bit of Hollywood history.  After a single-track incline, the short course descends onto “Cage Creek Trail” – where the cage scene from Planet of the Apes was filmed.  For the long course, athletes pass by old ‘bombed out’ jeeps and trucks from the historic set of television’s M*A*S*H before they are ‘presented’ with the infamous Bulldog Climb -- 3 miles of up, up, up.  Talk about “runners high” -- at 1800 feet of elevation the views of the Pacific Ocean and San Fernando Valley are truly breathtaking.

But that’s not all – this series is comprised of more than 30 events nationwide, with six of them held right here in Southern California!  The top 10 runners in each age group earn points at every XTERRA Trail Run attended.  After the series concludes, each region crowns local champions.  Then, the top 5 in each class are invited to compete against top trail runners from other regions at the 2007 XTERRA National Trail Running Championship, held this September in Lake Tahoe, NV.

Clif Bar Recycling Booth: The environment is our arena, and Clif Bar is helping us keep it pristine. 
Check out the Clif Bar booth that lets people recycle old cell phones/batteries and trade out incandescent light bulbs for a highly efficiency fluorescent ones – so bring yours!  After the event, the “Clif Bar Clean-Up Crew” will be picking up and sorting through the event waste in an effort to pull out all recyclables and keep the area as clean as a whistle!  Runners, stay tuned for the XTERRA SoCal Trail Run CREDIT system for discounts to events when you carpool or bring recycled items…

Beneficiary: Proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  Founded in 1901, the hospital has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century.

From PCH:
Take Las Virgenes Road south and turn right at Malibu Creek State Park, about 0.2 miles south of Mulholland Hwy.

Take Malibu Canyon Road north for six miles and turn left into Malibu Creek State Park

Registration:
$40 for the 4-mile Run and $50 for the 14-mile run

Event Day registration (if available) add $5 to the entry fee.
Youth Outreach Program - 15 to 17 years old – 4-mile Race: $20.00
