XTERRA Panther Creek Race Report

By Jen Trapp, XTERRA Rep

Panther Creek State Park is the most visited park in Tennessee and when you check out all the trails and activities they have, you will know why.  It is a perfect location for an XTERRA and with full support of the park (thanks John!) it was the spot for the 2nd Annual XTERRA Panther Creek this past weekend.

Athletes from across the region and beyond showed up Sunday morning ready for a great day of racing – and they got it!  The cloud coverage that was present in the morning hung on and even the weather was pretty good for August in Tennessee.

The half mile swim started right at 9am and the athletes took off.  The lake was warm and a little lower than normal –but it was a perfect, wetsuit-free swim.  The bike course is some awesome, challenging, fun single-track mixed with some open grassy areas ripe for passing, and some gravel hills to work you a bit.  The run goes back onto the singletrack and grassy hills and takes athletes on part of the local college cross country course.

First across the finish line was a familiar XTERRA face – Dan LaRoque – in 2:03:59.  Second place went to Ian Davidson Jr in 2:07:50 and Scott Mills took the third spot in 2:08:54.

On the ladies side top honors went to Sarah Hunn in 2:35:57.  Sara Hanson and Julia Radmann took 2nd and 3rd respectively in 2:41:13 and 2:43:45.

Thanks to Laura and Ed from River Sports for putting on such a great event.  Thanks again to Panther Creek State Park and all their support with this event.  We look forward to a bigger and better year in 2008!
