XTERRA River Valley Trail Run 5k Race & Kids Fun Run

Benefit for the Doc Shaffer Fund of River Valley Ranch --August 25th

Millers—River Valley Ranch (RVR) is host to the XTERRA River Valley Trail Run, a 5k Trail Race and Kids Fun Run, on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 8:00AM to benefit the Doc Shaffer Fund.  This event is the second in a trio of races for the XTERRA Chesapeake Bay Series following the hugely successful XTERRA Boordy Vineyards Trail Run.

Festivities will begin at 8:00AM Saturday morning with the 5K race which starts at the Ranch on groomed trails, continues onto Grave Run and Shaffer Mill roads before finishing through RVR’s authentic 19th century western town.

The ½ mile Kids' Fun Run will start at about 8:30 am. There will be awards for race winners in each age category, along with prizes for racers who collect pledges, including ipods and free weeks of camp at RVR. After the race, participants will be treated to a continental breakfast and “Post-Race Round Up” with activities for the whole family.

At each XTERRA trail race, the top 10 runners in each age division earn points.  When the series concludes, regional champions will be crowned.  In addition, because the Chesapeake Bay Series is under the umbrella of the national XTERRA Trail Run Series, with 40 races from coast to coast, the top five point scorers secure and invitation to the XTERRA National Championship Trail Running event.

BENEFICIARY:

The Doc Shaffer Fund was established to honor Dr. Stephen Shaffer, whose practice in northern Carroll County and many volunteer hours at RVR touched so many lives.  The proceeds from the XTERRA River Valley Trail Run will go to help fund summer camp scholarships for disadvantaged children as well as assist in building a new Health Center in Dr. Shaffer’s name.

Since 1952, River Valley Ranch in north-east Carroll County, MD has provided an exciting and life-changing camp experience to hundreds of thousands of young people from all over America. RVR strives to provide an exciting camp experience combined with an emphasis on the spiritual needs of youth. It is RVR’s hope that any camper who wishes to attend River Valley Ranch can do so despite their social or economic situations.
