XTERRA is On Point

The XTERRA Pt. Mugu Trail Run Jumpstarts the '08 XTERRA SoCal Points Series  

Los Angeles, CA – Following the advice of Stan Swartz, author of "50 Trail Runs in Southern California" -- if you only do two trail runs in Southern California, do La Jolla Canyon Trail clockwise and then do it counter-clockwise.  Trail Runners of all calibers will do just that on October 6, 2007 for the XTERRA Pt. Mugu Trail Run – an 11k or 18k race that follows this spectacular trek. 

The name XTERRA is home to off-road adventure and this event is no exception.  Held at Point Mugu State Park, this course features the toughest (and most rewarding) first mile of any trail race around.  The race heads straight into the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains before a dramatic finish down the historic Ray Miller Trail.  And the views will knock your socks off!  Competitors can expect to see some of the most brilliant coastal views possible; at 1,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean and PCH, the scene is simply breathtaking.  A pass through Overlook Trail also gives runners grand views into La Jolla Canyon, Sycamore Canyon and Boney Mountain.  The race is limited to a capacity 300 racers, so enter early! 

About the XTERRA SoCal Series:  All events in this Series feature a shorter run for beginners/sprinters and a longer course for more endurance-oriented athletes.  The 7 event series has stops in some of the top trails and mountain ranges in Southern California.  Points are awarded for the top finishers in each age group for the longer distance events. At the end of the season, the top point finishers will earn a berth to the National Championships in Lake Tahoe, NV.  Check out the schedule below for rest of the 2007/2008 events! 

Beneficiary: A portion of the Los Angeles area event-proceeds benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which was founded in 1901. Children's Hospital Los Angeles has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century. 

RACE DETAILS 

Location: Race #1 for the 2008 SoCal Series takes place in Point Mugu State Park in Malibu/Oxnard, CA.  This race starts at the southern end of the park in La Jolla Canyon, which is 1 mile west of Sycamore Canyon. And no, this is not in La Jolla, that beautiful city down in San Diego!!!

Event Date & Times: Saturday - October 6, 2007 
8:30 AM: 18k race begins         
8:50 AM: 11k race begins 

We recommend that runners arrive 1 hour prior to their race time to allow adequate time for parking, packet pickup and warm-up.  Afterwards, expect a satisfying breakfast to refuel before you head home to nap!
