XTERRA Gave Georgia Runners a "Thrill in the Hills"March 1, 2008 (Winder, GA) – Atlanta native Chris Wiley, 38, did it again winning his second consecutive XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series race of 2008 at Saturday’s XTERRA Thrill in the Hills Xduro at Fort Yargo State Park. Coming out on top for the women was Leah Nicholson, 20, from Cullowee, NC. Wiley, coming in almost two minutes ahead of runner-up Brandon Jessop of Madeira, OH, ran the half-marathon distance in just 1:18:53. Nicholson came in with a time of 1:37:50 while Statham, GA resident Brittany Holland took the women’s second place title with her time of 1:41:14. Three hundred runners from 11 states showed up to battle the chilly temperatures in the first-ever half-marathon distance Xduro event. With athletes ranging in age from 15 to 69, the XTERRA Thrill in the Hills Xduro was just the start to a successful season full of these new, grueling endurance events. “The race went really well!” According to race director Tim Schroer, “We had a great turnout.” XTERRA Thrill in the Hills was the fourth race in the Georgia Trail Run Series giving runners just one more opportunity to boost their series points total to earn free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship in Bend, OR on September 27. From there runners can go on to compete in the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 in Hawaii. Next in the Georgia Trail Run Series is the XTERRA Deep South Trail Run 15k in Dauset, GA on May 31.
