Dix and Kucharski Back on Top in XTERRA Philly Series at Hibernia Park



(Coatesville, PA) - Once again, Mother Nature was a huge factor in the XTERRA Philly Trail Run Series at last night's Hibernia Park Challenge 8K. Hometown hero Dan Dix, 29, was able to take back the top spot with his time of 30:33. After completing the XTERRA East Championship race in Richmond this past Sunday, Collingswood, NJ resident Dan Sullivan, 25,  had an impressive run coming in only 1:14 behind Dix.

In the women's race, Jerilyn Kucharski, 26, from Quakertown was not going to settle for another second place finish after the XTERRA Warwick Park Ruckus and turned in last night's fastest female time with 39:35. Right behind her was Alison Gracey crossing the finish line at 40:49.

About three hours before the start of the race, the sky opened up with torrential rain, thunder and lightning. The downpour stopped, the sky cleared, and the sun came out just 30 minutes before the start of the race, but not before a section of the trail was flooded forcing race director Don Morrison to cut the course from 5 miles to 4 ½ miles.

"Due to the weather, our turn-out was a little bit light, but everyone finished safely and with sweat and smiles on their faces. It was a challenge just to finish this one!" said Morrison. 

The XTERRA Hibernia Park Challenge was the fourth of five races in the 2008 XTERRA Trail Run Series, so runners have only one more chance to earn series points for their chance to win free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon. From there, runners can compete in the first-ever XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 at the beautiful Kualoa Ranch in Hawaii.
