McMahon, Garrard Win XTERRA Tahoe City

By Chris Appleton, XTERRA Rep

Location, location, location. The XTERRA Tahoe City had all three of those real estate attributes.
Location one: A 1200 meter swim in Lake Tahoe, one of the country's most beautiful and scenic lakes set in an idyllic location.
Location two: A tough and awesome 22-mile bike course in the California high country amongst towering pines.
Location three: A 6-mile run while sharing the space with squirrels and other wildlife in a stunning natural environment.

141 athletes hit the line for the long distance course at 9:00am Saturday morning. Miraculously, a shift in winds cleared up the Tahoe skies from the smoke and ash that has plagued much of Northern California from numerous wildfires in the area. Fresh air for everyone was much appreciated.

Ross McMahon took overall honors in the men's field with a blistering course time of 2:42:49. Emma Garrard aced the women's field with a time of 3:00:27. Everybody had positive comments on the course, race support and organization.

If you missed this chance to race XTERRA in the natural environment of the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, you still have another opportunity this year. XTERRA Nevada will be held on October, 4, 2008 at Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, Nevada and is open to all competitors. And if you've qualified to race at the National Championship on October, 5, well, you know the schedule and we'll see you at Incline Village, North Lake Tahoe.

Many thanks to Todd Jackson and his hard working, early rising crew for great organization and support for a successful XTERRA Tahoe City.
