Talley, King Take Top Honors at XTERRA Antelope Island

(Antelope Island, UT) - Local running phenomenon Corbin Talley, 31, and Stephanie King, 26,  took first place in their respective divisions at this morning's XTERRA Antelope Island Trail Run.

Talley, the head track & field and cross country coach at Davis High School, has a long history of winning just about every road race he enters and is now beginning to conquer the trail racing circuit as well. He won the 12km race in an incredible 48:29 with Kevin Tuck, 52, taking second place more than two minutes later.

In the women's race, King won with her time of 1:01:59 with Jenna Deelstra coming in a close second at 1:02:17. It was a cool, clear morning when runners took their places at the start line, but soon after the 8:00AM race started, the sun quickly heated the day.

Race director John Wojciechowski said the event was a big success. "Everybody loved the course. People commented it was not like running in the alpine Wasatch Front, but more like running in Europe with the rolling hills in the plains.  In just the short 7-mile drive across the causeway into Antelope Island, it was like entering another planet with a completely different setting.  Great times!"

This was the third of four races in the 2008 XTERRA Utah Trail Run Series, giving runners just one more opportunity to earn points toward their series total. Runners finishing the series with top points will be invited to race for free at the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship on September 27, 2008 in Bend, Oregon. At this event, participants will compete against the best-of-the-best trail runners from across the country. From there, athletes can go on to race in the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 in beautiful Hawaii. For more information, visit www.xterratrailrun.com.

Next up in the 2008 XTERRA Utah Trail Run Series is the XTERRA Wheeler Canyon Xduro 21km Trail Run. Part of the weekend-long sports spectacular at the XTERRA Mountain Championship at Snowbasin, this event will start at Pineview Reservoir at 10am on August 16.
