Nala Wins Breeder's Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge
Thirty dogs and their owners ran through the fast and furious K9 Challenge time-trial obstacle course today and after three rounds of playoffs; Nala, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, and her owner Vernon Kwan from San Ramon, CA turned in the fastest time with a flawless 14.6-second run through the course.
Nala and Kwan edged local favorites Mya and owner Mike Gouck from Incline Village by just two-tenths of a second in the final heat. Village Green located next to the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, home to XTERRA Village during the USA Championship weekend, is normally home to the local k9's as a dog park and plenty of local talent showed up to strut their stuff. From small dogs like pugs, mutts and beagles, to big dogs like German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Bulldogs - a wide variety of K9's took on the Breeder's Choice Challenge. In the end, it was the notoriously smart Australian Shepherd who pulled out the win and walked away with a year supply of Avoderm Dog Food.
