Mason, Hush Finish First at XTERRA Fall Fitness Trail Run

(Buford, GA) – Just one week after the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship in Bend, Oregon, Georgia runners were back on the trails to kick off the 2008-09 XTERRA Trail Run Series with the XTERRA Fall Fitness 5km Trail Run.

Gregory Mason, 28, and Stefanie Hush, 20, had the fastest finishes of the day coming in at 15:27 and 20:07 for the men’s and women’s races respectively. In a field of 145 runners ranging in age from 14-68, Mason was able to take the lead and finish only 20 seconds faster than runner up Travis Wray, 23. Kim Vanoflen, 16, took the women’s second place title with her time of 21:54.

Taking place at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center Trails, the XTERRA Fall Fitness Trail Run “went really well today. We had a very successful start to the season.” said race director Tim Schroer.

“This was an awesome event, and I know the future events will be just as great!” said Kathy Richardson, one of the day’s participants who crossed the finish line in 27:25.

This was just the first of six races in the 2008-09 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series, so there are plenty more opportunities for runners to accumulate points toward their series totals. Athletes with top points at the end of the series will be awarded free entry to the 2009 XTERRA Trail Running National Championship scheduled to be held once again in Bend, Oregon in September.

Next up in the Georgia Trail Run Series is the XTERRA Battle at Big Creek 6/11km Trail Runs on 11/8 in Roswell.
