Garrison, Nolan Capture 1st Place at Camp Edge Trail Run



(Alloway, NJ) – Runners took to the trails at today’s inaugural XTERRA Camp Edge 5km Trail Runs. Athletes had a choice between a fun trail run around the Camp Edge grounds and the adventure-filled, appropriately-named Muddy Bottom Course.

Muddy Bottom course winners Roger Garrison, 25, and Celese Nolan, 34, battled their way through the woods, kayaked across a lake and waded in a pool of mud to earn their titles. Garrison crossed the finish line in 26:06 edging out runner-up Tim Hunt, 22, by just two seconds. In the women’s race, Nolan’s time of 34:45 was 30 second ahead of Sally Lamont of Woodstown, NJ.

Those not wanting to spend their morning covered in mud chose the 5km trail run. Travis Conover, 19, and Loretta Osborn, 33, had the fastest times of the race coming in at 21:50 and 30:43 respectively. William Chard, 39, came in second place with his time of 22:46 along with Martha Champigny, 37, in 33:30.

According to race director Kelly Dees, “The trail run was very well received, but the Muddy Bottom course got rave reviews. The runners were covered in mud to the point where we couldn’t even see their race numbers. After the race, competitors took a final lap past a hose to clean off and headed into the lodge where a warm fire and breakfast awaited. We had a great time and can’t wait until next year.”

The XTERRA Camp Edge Trail Run was the first of four races in the 2008-09 XTERRA Chesapeake Trail Run Series. Top runners accumulate points toward their series total for their chance to earn free entry to the 2009 XTERRA Trail Running National Championship taking place in Bend, Oregon next September. In addition, all runners are welcome to participate in the first-ever XTERRA Trail Running World Championship coming up on December 7 in Hawaii.
