XTERRA Teams with Doug Harris Memorial for First Trail Run in Series

RACE #1 IN 2009 XTERRA SOUTH CAROLINA TRAIL RUN SERIES

XTERRA is excited to introduce its first XTERRA Trail Run Series event in the state of South Carolina. The 3rd annual Doug Harris Trail Run makes its XTERRA debut on April 11 at the Issaqueena Forest in Clemson, South Carolina.

The XTERRA Doug Harris Memorial Trail Run will feature 10-kilometers of off-road adventure within the 17,500 acre Clemson Experimental Forest. This multi-purpose green space features a melting pot of terrains from loose gravel double track to hard-packed, technical single track trails. Runners should also be ready for an ever-changing elevation level.

XTERRA is proud to partner with the Doug Harris Memorial Trail Run to honor Jerry Douglas Harris III, an outstanding student and exemplary cadet in the Air Force ROTC at Clemson University, who died in a tragic accident in the fall of 2006. In his honor, Detachment 770 has set up a memorial scholarship fund that helps benefit current and future Air Force ROTC students with tuition assistance. All money raised during this event will go directly into this institution.

The XTERRA Doug Harris Memorial Trail Run is the first race in the 2009 XTERRA South Carolina Trail Run Series. Including this event, area runners will have three opportunities to earn points toward their series totals for their chance to be crowned a regional champion and receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. From there, runners can go head to head with the world’s best runners at the December 6th XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on the spectacular Hawaiian island of Oahu.
