Wiley Wins XTERRA Xduro in Photo Finish

(Conyers, GA) – Less than a second separated first from second place at Saturday’s XTERRA Runnin’ the Rocks Trail Run held at the Georgia International Horse Park. Atlanta’s Chris Wiley, 40, bolted across the finish line at 35:49:50 and edged out Marietta’s Jeff Campbell, 38, by just six tenths of a second. The neck and neck race made for an exciting finish to the adventure-filled event as Wiley, owner of Atlanta’s Oz Pizza, won the race for the second year in a row.

The women’s race had a little more breathing room as 36-year old Holly Ortlund of Decatur took top honors for the 10km event in just 43:01. Kennesaw’s Tara Mooney, 26, and Britney Almaguer, 23 of Atlanta, came in second and third with their times of 44:32 and 45:23 respectively.

Runners ranged in age from 9 to 68 years old from 10 states. 2008 XTERRA Georgia Regional Champion Charles Weaving, of Lawrenceville, GA, was one of the youngest competitors at just 17-years old, but he turned in a time of 48:14 to come in 36th place overall.

Just over 200 runners took to the start line for this fourth race in the 2009 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series. Runners will have just 3 more opportunities to add points to their series totals. Those with the highest scores at the end of the season will be crowned an XTERRA Regional Champion and receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship in Bend, Oregon on September 13. From there, runners can line up against the world’s best trail runners at the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 6 on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu.
