XTERRA Runners Battle at Bulldog for Regional Titles

Since last September, almost 1000 athletes have come out to compete in the 2009 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series, and on May 9, the Regional Champions will be crowned. The XTERRA Malibu Creek Trail Run will serve as the season finale and feature the grueling half-marathon distance Xduro along with a 6-kilometer fun run.

Malibu Creek State Park sets the stage as runners compete in what race director Brennan Lindner calls the series’ “Grand Mama Event.” In a matter of 22-kilometers, the course boasts a 3284-foot elevation gain with more than half of that in a small stretch between mile 3 and 6 known infamously as Bulldog Mountain.

The XTERRA Malibu Creek Xduro is proud to announce its partnership with The Salvation Army on its mission to introduce underprivileged children to the outdoors at its camp located around mile 12 of the race course. All participants have the opportunity to make a donation during registration or by using the pledge form found online.

This is the seventh and final race in the 2009 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series and runners’ last chance to add points toward their series totals. Runners like San Diego’s Heather D’Anna or Robin Lee Wilhelm of Cerritos, who have competed in all six races so far, have already clinched their Regional Titles, but for everyone else it will all come down to the battle at Bulldog. Champions will receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. From there they will have the opportunity to go head to head with the World’s best trail runners at the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 6 in beautiful Hawaii.
