Back in Bend - XTERRA Trail Run Nationals

Last September, hundreds of athletes from 21 states gathered at the Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon for XTERRA’s very first stand alone Trail Running National Championship. Outside Magazine has called Bend the best trail running town in America, and by all accounts, it lives up to its name.

This year the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship is returning to Bend on Sunday, September 13 with its main, half-marathon distance championship event along with two shorter 5/10km fun runs, an owner-dog obstacle challenge and activities for the entire family. Thousands of runners have already taken part in the 9 region, 50+ race series, and it will all come down to Bend to determine who will take home the National Champion titles.

Many of the nation’s top trail runners will travel to Central Oregon in an attempt to dethrone Bend’s own Max King, who currently holds both the XTERRA Trail Running National and World titles. However, since it is not necessary to qualify for this event, all are welcome to race alongside these top athletes.

THE COURSE

Under a special use permit from the Deschutes National Forest, the national championship will wind its way along the scenic Deschutes River trail. With little more than 1,000 feet of elevation gain, runners can expect a fast and fun course with lots of switchbacks on rocky, single and doubletrack trails. The race will start and finish at the XTERRA compound located right in the heart of Bend’s Old Mill District.

PRIZE MONEY AND AWARDS

The fastest runners will be racing for $5,000 in prize money – awarded to the top five men and women as follows: $1,000, $600, $400, $300, $200. XTERRA will also be crowning national champs in age groups starting at 9 & under, then every five years (ex. 10-14, 15-19, etc…) up to 80+.

AID STATIONS

There will be several aid stations along each of the courses featuring nutrition and hydration from our loyal sponsors GU Energy Gel and Gatorade.

FEES, REGISTRATION AND PACKET PICK-UP

Packet pick-up is scheduled for Saturday, September 12 from 9am-5pm at the Footzone. Athletes can also pick-up their packets on race morning at the Old Mill District race compound starting at 7am. SORRY, THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

21km: $40 / $45 (8/13-9/9) / $50 (9/9-9/12)
10km: $30 / $35 (8/13-9/9) / $40 (9/9-9/12)
5km: $25 / $30 (8/13-9/9) / $35 (9/9-9/12)
