Drake, Dudley Win XTERRA New England Finale

(Hanover, NH) – Runners from seven states flocked to the world class Dartmouth XC Facility on Saturday for the season finale of the 2009 XTERRA New England Trail Run Series. Against fierce competition, series newcomers Keith Drake and Hilary Dudley ran their way to victory over the intense 16-kilometer course.

Hanover’s hometown hero Drake ran the fastest overall time of the day in just 53:12 while Jamaica Plain, MA resident John Dudley claimed the runner up position in 54:57. Enfield’s Richard Smith rounded out the top three in 55:17.

Hilary Dudley dominated the women’s field finishing 15th overall with her time of 1:00:56. Taking the second and third place titles were Sara Graves of Croyden and Hanover’s Dorcas Wonsavage with their times of 1:04:00 and 1:05:02 respectively.

XTERRA all-star athlete Richard Burgunder reported “STOAKED was a cool race with its crazy hills right from the start. Race director Chad Denning put together another great XTERRA race. The course turned out to be much more challenging than it originally looked, but it was also a lot of fun.”

Rich, who is from Astoria, NY, came to the XTERRA STOAKED Trail Run in hopes of securing his title of XTERRA Regional Champion. Not only did he earn enough points for this coveted honor, he and the rest of the XTERRA New England Regional Champions will receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. From there, Rich has said he will compete in the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu on December 6th. Both races will welcome elite athletes from around the world, however no qualification is necessary for either of these championship events, and all are welcome to compete.
