AMERICA'S BEST XTERRA PROS REVEALED

Shonny VanlandinghamJosiah Middaugh and Shonny Vanlandingham (shown here on her way to victory at XTERRA Mexico) are America's best male and female XTERRA racers.  As proof, they are the reigning national champs and the top ranked U.S. athletes in the Cup Series (Middaugh is third behind Nico Lebrun and Conrad Stoltz while Shonny V is second behind Melanie McQuaid).

Both were recently featured in question and answer sessions done by Slowtwitch.  In Herbert Krabel's interview with Vanlandingham the 40-year-young sensation reveals how she evolved from a basketball player to a handballer to one of NORBA's all-time greatest mountain bikers and eventually into an XTERRA phenom.  She also shares some hidden gems, like how riding single speed bikes on trails is good for your skills, "makes you commit and go for it!"  Read the full interview here.

In Middaugh's one-on-one Tim Carlson discovers how the East Jordan, Michigan native migrated to Vail, Colorado and went from a fairly average runner in college to the ultimate athlete in the Ultimate Mountain Challenge.  He also learned that while Middaugh (pictured below at XTERRA Mountain Cup with son Sullivan, courtesy www.brightroom.com) doesn't wear an iPod or listen to music while training, the lyrics below to a song called Remember the Name by Fort Minor provided all the motivation he'd need to finish as the top American in Maui last year:

This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill

Fifteen percent concentrated power of will

Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain

And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!
