Horsager, Coile Take Titles at New XTERRA Race

(Delta, Alabama) – XTERRA’s newest trail run series kicked off this past weekend in Delta, Alabama’s Cheaha State Park. Each area runner raced over 10-kilometers of technical, twisting turns and rolling hills, and it was Amanda Blake Coile and Joshua Horsager who took home the top prizes.

Columbus, Georgia native Horsager, 32, blazed the trail with the day’s fastest time of 40:47, which was more than three minutes ahead of 21-year old Jarret Chambers of Piedmont, Alabama. Newell’s Kip Chase, 25, rounded out the men’s top three with his time of 46:08.

In the women’s event, Birmingham’s Amanda Blake Coile, 33, broke the tape in 58:31 with Robyn Talley, 48 from Eastaboga, just over a minute behind her. Kathy Richardson of Kennesaw, Georgia, 50, took third place in 1:01:25.

After the race, Amanda Blake Coile commented on the day. “We had a lot of fun, but this was the most difficult trail run EVER. There was not one smooth step on the entire course, but that made the event great.”

Since this was the premier event in the inaugural XTERRA Alabama Trail Run Series, this was the first opportunity for runners to earn points toward their 2010 series totals. Runners will have two more races to participate in, and the athletes who accumulate the highest scores will be awarded the coveted title of XTERRA Trail Running Regional Champion and win free entry to the 2010 XTERRA Trail Running National Championship.

In addition, coming up on December 6th, 2009, all Alabama runners are invited to race at the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship at the stunning Kualoa Ranch on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. This pristine 4,000 acre ranch is the site of numerous major productions such as Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Pearl Harbor, and LOST.
