Lockton, Clark Start Thanksgiving with an XTERRA Win

(Topanga, CA) – On a day known for indulgence, Mary Lockton and Jon Clark earned the right to overeat at their Thanksgiving feasts by winning yesterday morning’s XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Trail Run. Over 600 runners lined up to kick off their holiday season in one of the competition’s three distances.

Clark, 36, won the day’s main 15-kilometer event in 1:04:53. XTERRA SoCal Series regulars Daniel Weissauer-Condon, 29 of Los Angeles, and Sean Kievning, 26 from Redondo Beach, placed second and third with their times of 1:06:21 and 1:06:48 respectively.

In the women’s long event, 32-year old Lockton blew away her competition by over seven minutes with her blazing fast time of 1:07:57, good enough for sixth overall. Carlsbad local Amy Elizabeth Ringdahl, 41, took second place in 1:15:17 with Anissa Faulkner, 39, rounding out the top three just 38 seconds later.

Albuquerque, New Mexico residents dominated the 10km event with Greg Feucht, 32, and Jamesina Simpson, 29, clocking the winning times of 42:15 and 51:57.

Matt Higgins, 24 of North Hollywood won the men’s 5km in 29:56 while 32-year old Erin Maruoka of Santa Monica took the women’s race in 32:54.

This was the second of seven chances to race in the 2010 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series. Top runners in the 15km distance will earn points toward their season totals, and those ending the series with the highest scores will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and earn free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship next fall. Coming up next on December 13th is the XTERRA Crystal Cove Trail Run in Newport Coast.
