XTERRA Starts New Run Series in Syosset

RACE #1 IN 2010 XTERRA LONG ISLAND TRAIL RUN SERIES

Just beyond New York City’s urban jungle, Syosset, NY prepares to play host to one of XTERRA’s newest adventures. Kicking off on March 7th, the XTERRA Long Island Trail Run Series sets its sights on Stillwell Woods Park for the first of three races in the 2010 season.

Long Island is the most populated island in the United States though it certainly won’t seem like it as runners find themselves immersed in the rolling trails of the high hardwood forests. The XTERRA Stillwell Woods Trail Run is an off-road playground of single track with sections of hard packed dirt, sand, loose gravel and roots. Highlights also include the snake switchback section and the ewok forest. According to race director JP Latkovic, “It’s a gnarly course that will be a true test for everyone from the beginner to the avid trail enthusiast.”

As the premier race in the season, this will be the first opportunity for New Yorkers to win points toward their 2010 XTERRA Long Island Series totals. Those with the highest scores after the final race will be crowned XTERRA regional champions and win free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 18th in the spectacular running community of Bend, Oregon.

XTERRA Stillwell 8km Trail Race Information

When: Sunday, March 7, 2010 – 9:00am
Where: Stillwell Woods Park in Syosset, NY
Entry Fee: $25 / $15 without an event t-shirt
Registration: Online registration available at www.xterratrailrun.com.
Prizes: 1st – 3rd place overall male and female will receive an award and cash prize. Top three in each age group will receive medals. All athletes will receive a commemorative technical running shirt.
