Holzhausen, Josephs Throw Down XTERRA Wins in Winder(Winder, GA) – The XTERRA Georgia Series hosted its first-ever marathon distance trail run today, and almost 450 runners from 16 states came out to Fort Yargo State Park to participate in this inaugural race along with its longtime favorite half-marathon adventure. In the XTERRA Thrill in the Hills marathon distance, Lawrenceville’s Errol Josephs, 40, set the standard with his winning time of just 3:31:58. Just behind him were Johnny Garner, 47 of Oakwood, and Johan Desmet, 43 of Suwanee, turning in second and third place finishes of 3:33:56 and 3:35:57 respectively. Amanda Holzhausen, 37, traveled all the way from McCordsville, IN to take home the top women’s prize in 3:45:03. Placing sixth overall, Holzhausen crossed the finish line more than four minutes ahead of Cynthia Bartus, 32, and seven minutes in front of Robin Meagher, 30, both of Atlanta. The fourth annual half-marathon distance crowned Atlanta’s David Bell, 27, who blazed through the hill-covered course in an incredible 1:18:00, more than four minutes better than series regular Ian McCann, 27, also of Atlanta. Dan Crane of Sandy Springs rounded out the men’s top three in 1:24:24. For the women’s half, 24-year old Elena Linn of Marietta claimed an overwhelming win in just 1:32:13. The exciting fight for the silver medal was decided by a mere four-tenths of a second when Hope Concannon, 42, visiting from Candler, NC edged out Mount Pleasant, South Carolina’s Marin Domin, 29 with her time of 1:40:30.5. This was the fifth of six races in the 2010 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series, and with just one more chance to earn those coveted season points, Georgia peaches will be out in full force for the finale coming up on June 5th. Those ending the season with the highest scores will be crowned XTERRA Georgia Regional Champions and earn free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 18th in Bend, Oregon. Then on December 5th, area athletes are invited to the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu for the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship.
