XTERRA Heads to Clemson to Honor Fallen Cadet

RACE #2 IN THE 2010 XTERRA SOUTH CAROLINA TRAIL RUN SERIES

XTERRA returns to Clemson University on April 17th for the fourth annual XTERRA Doug Harris Memorial Trail Run. This 10-kilometer race through Clemson’s Issaqueena Forest is named in honor of Jerry Douglas Harris III who died in a tragic accident in the fall of 2006.

According to race director Daniel Hermida, “Doug was an outstanding student and an exemplary Air Force ROTC cadet with the potential to become a great officer. In his honor, Detachment 770 has set up a memorial scholarship fund that helps benefit current and future AFROTC students with tuition assistance. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Doug Harris Memorial Scholarship Fund.”

This race is open to all, and South Carolina athletes can look forward to a morning run with perfect spring temperatures and a fun mix of loose gravel roads, hard-packed clay, technical single track, and beautiful views of Issaqueena Lake.

The XTERRA Doug Harris Memorial Trail Run is the second of four races in the 2010 XTERRA South Carolina Trail Run Series. Top runners will receive points toward their series totals, and those who end the season with the highest scores will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and win free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 18th in the outdoor sports mecca of Bend, Oregon.

From there, all runners are invited to race on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu at the December 5th XTERRA Trail Running World Championship. For more information about the 2010 XTERRA Trail Run Series, visit www.xterratrailrun.com.
