Dix, Simpson Win at XTERRA Warwick Park

(Pottstown, PA) – May is National Runners’ Month, and to kick off the XTERRA festivities, the XTERRA Warwick Park Revenge Trail Run took place last night in Pottstown, PA under perfect sunny skies.

The newly designed race course welcomed an even mix of series regulars and new XTERRA runners to the start line, but it was Philly favorite Dan Dix of Coatesville who took home yet another win with his 5-kilometer time of 21:48. He has won more XTERRA Philly Trail Runs than any other runner, and he held onto his title yet again as he crossed the finish line 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Jim Rayburn of York. Another longtime series runner Derek Schultz of West Chester rounded out the men’s podium in 22:20 as he attempts to win his way back to Bend, Oregon for the XTERRA Trail Run Nationals. Each of the men’s top three ran the Boston Marathon just two weeks ago.

In the women’s race, Glenmore’s Bianca Simpson, a new runner to the XTERRA Philly Series and a retired professional duathlete, took home the top prize with her winning time of 25:46. Second place went to Charity Burkhart and third place went to XTERRA veteran and series standout Jerilyn Kucharski who finished in 26:30 and 28:07 respectively.

After crossing the finish line at the post-race pizza party, XTERRA Ambassador Rich Costello said “It was an awesome opening series race. The XTERRA Warwick Park Revenge saw large numbers of returning runners as well as new faces to the wonders of XTERRA off-road running!”

Pottstown’s Jim Mora commented that “This was a great new tough course…the hardest, air-gasping 5K I have done.” And according to Megan Reedell, “It was a fun race and we can’t wait to do the next one in a few weeks.”

As the kick-off race in the 2010 XTERRA Philly Trail Run Series, this was the first of five races for top runners to accumulate points toward their season totals. Those ending the series with the highest scores will earn the right to be called an XTERRA Philly Regional Champion and race for free at the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 18th in beautiful Bend, Oregon.

Then on December 5th, the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship takes place on the exotic, Hawaiian island of Oahu. With no qualification necessary, all runners are welcome to say aloha to the spectacular race site of Kualoa Ranch, which has been the setting of major productions like Jurassic Park, Godzilla and LOST.
