Swanton Triathlete Wins in Lake Placid

From Press-Republican

LAKE PLACID — Matt Boobar of Swanton, Vt., rolled to an impressive 7½-minute victory Sunday in the Second-Annual XTERRA Lake Placid Triathlon.

He completed the 1,500-meter swim, 19.72-mile bicylce ride and 6.6-mile run over a rolling course with varying short hills and dirty terrain inside a pine forest in 3 hours, 24:59 minutes.

The total ascent of the run was 920 feet and included a short trot into a swamp.

The prize purse for the 2010 triathlon event was $3,000 to be split among the top 5 finishers in both the men's and the women's divisions.

New this year was a short course option. Participants choosing this route completed one loop for each of the three legs of the race.

Felix Hudson of Ste. Anne, Que. had the fastest time in the short event — one hour, 59:30 minutes.

The long-course event attracted 147 entries with 103 completing the test while 72 of 80 finished the short event.

There are approximately 50 to 60 XTERRA races around the country each year, and 10 to 15 XTERRA international competitions.
