Bowman, Woodward Top the Field at Leave No Trace Trail Run

Regional champs crowned as Northern Ohio Series concludes for 2011

The XTERRA Northern Ohio Trail Run Series came to a thrilling conclusion last weekend, with close to 150 runners participating in the XTERRA Leave No Trace Trail Run.

Kyle Bowman of Hudson, Ohio, and Beth Woodward of Orrville, Ohio, took the top honors. Bowman, 27, was the first overall finisher, completing the 21-kilometer course in 1 hour, 45 minutes, 44 seconds. Woodward, 36, was an impressive fifth overall and the first female with a time of 1:48:50.

The race was completed on Saturday, September 3, at Camp Manatoc in Peninsula, Ohio.

Bowman and Woodward are no strangers to the top of the results in the Northern Ohio Series. It was the second overall victory for each of them.

Dan Mesh of Cleveland Heights placed second overall with a time of 1:46:12, and Charles Novak from Cuyahoga Falls was third in 1:47:59.

Laurie Schroeder of Galion was the second female with a time of 2:03:57, and Michelle Barwacz was third in 2:04:12.

The race was open to all runners, and the ages ranged from 20 to 71.

It was also the final race in the 2011 XTERRA Northern Ohio Trail Run Series, so the age-group champions for the series were announced after the race.

"What a way to end the Northern Ohio Series," said Schroeder, who went undefeated during the season in the women's 25-29 age group. "This race was by far the hardest, most technical, and demanding of the series, but was also the most fun."

The 2011 XTERRA Northern Ohio Series featured seven races and drew more than 700 runners over the course of the season. The age-group champions from the final series standings received free entries to represent Ohio at the 2011 XTERRA Trail Run National Championship at Ogden, Utah, on Sept. 25.

Northern Ohio is one of 12 regions that are hosting an XTERRA Trail Run Series in 2011. The others are Alabama, Arizona, Southern California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Philly, Pocono, South Carolina and Texas.
