XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run set for April 15

Runners of all ages and speeds eligible to register

There is less than two months to register for the 2012 XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run.

The always popular "trail run in the desert" is scheduled for April 15, and it will take place on a course just off the Aston MonteLago Village Resort at Lake Las Vegas - about 17 miles off the famous Las Vegas Strip.

The course features unique desert terrain, and the combination of hard-packed sand, loose rocks of various sizes, and a lack of forestation has led some runners to describe it as "like running on the moon."

"This race was really challenging, between the washed-out sandy sections, the big climbs, the rocky sections, and the competition itself," said last year's winner, Jeffrey Moreland, who resides in Reno, Nev. "I think I really benefitted from running on similar surfaces back in Reno."

The event is open to runners of all ages and skill levels, and there will be three separate courses for the various levels of runners - a 21-kilometer long course, a 10K and a 5K.

For those wanting to make a Vegas weekend out of it, the Aston MonteLago Village Resort is offering special rates for XTERRA athletes and supporters.

The XTERRA West Championship off-road triathlon will be held at Lake Las Vegas on April 14, so some of the world's best triathletes will be in the area that weekend, and some may even stick around to participate in the XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run the next day.
