XTERRA SoCal Series Concludes Season this Weekend

More than 800 runners expected for XTERRA Malibu Creek Trail Run

The XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series will close its 2012 season in grand fashion this weekend at Malibu, Calif.

The XTERRA Malibu Creek Trail Run will serve as the final race of the season in the SoCal Series, and a capacity field of 800 runners is expected to compete. The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 29, at Malibu Creek State Park.

The Malibu Creek Trail Run will feature two course options for runners - a 22-kilometer long course and a 6-kilometer short course. Both courses are open to runners of all ages and skill levels.

The race has become one of the most popular trail-running events in the state due in part to its breathtaking views and challenging climbs and descents. Jonathan Toker of Malibu won the race last year and will be back to defend his title. "Regardless of the conditions, and on any day all year, this route features some of the most scenic trails in all of Southern California," he said.

All participating runners will receive an event shirt and a post-race breakfast. Dos Equis beer recently became a sponsor of the XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series, so samples will be offered after the race to runners of legal age.

The XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series has already completed six races, and the Malibu Creek Trail Run will serve as the seventh, and final, event of the season. Runners who have participated in all seven races in the series will receive a commemorative shirt signifying the accomplishment.

The top 15 runners in each respective age group earn points after each race. The points are tallied throughout the season, and at the conclusion of the series, each respective age-group champion will earn a free entry to represent SoCal at the 2012 XTERRA Trail Run National Championship at Ogden, Utah, in September.
