Puerto Rico Series Growing Fast
The XTERRA Salinas Trail Run last weekend drew nearly 350 runners, ranging in age from 14 to 71. It was just the second race in the history of the Puerto Rico Series. The Salinas Trail Run was completed on May 27 at Salinas, Puerto Rico. "I would best describe the Salinas race as a trail runner explosion," Puerto Rico Series director Efrain Cardona said. "We had 117 runners at our first race back in January, so we were expecting a reasonable growth to 200 for this race. In the four days preceding the race, we felt the blast of trail runners and we were very excited to see so many people willing to try what the XTERRA Puerto Rico Trail Run Series has to offer." Angel Cruz took top honors, completing the 8-kilometer course in 33 minutes, 37 seconds. Carmelo Rivera was second with a time of 35:40, and Kelvin Gonzalez was third at 36:30. Tamaris Rivera was the top female, finishing with a time of 47:07. Neysha Valdez was a close second at 47:15, and Yaritza Rosa was third at 47:32. CLICK HERE to view complete results.
