XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run Set for April 14

Looking for an excuse to go to Las Vegas? The 2013 XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run is coming up on April 14, and it is open to runners of all ages and skill levels from around the world.

The XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run offers a contrasting scene from the bright lights normally associated with Sin City, as the race takes place on a desert course just outside the Aston MonteLago Resort.  Past participants have compared the course to "running on Mars" because of the sandy terrain, wide-open trails, and wild desert scenery.

At the same time, those inclined to partake in activities before and after the race would be a mere 17 miles away from the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Brandon Mader resides in Alabama, and made the trip to participate in last year's XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run. He said:  "I think out-of-town runners should consider doing the same. You get to run a great race, then go immediately into vacation mode. It's a rare combination to have a trail race followed by world-class entertainment."

There are three courses to accommodate the various levels of runners - a 21-kilometer long course, a 10K and 5K. The 21K course is considered the championship course, and each age-group winner from that race will receive a free entry to the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship in Hawaii later in the year.

Top finishers in all three distances will receive medals and other prizes, and every runner who registers before April 1 will get an event shirt.

The race is held in conjunction with the XTERRA West Championship off-road triathlon, and world-class endurance athletes will be in and around the area throughout the week. In addition, an expo area will be set up at the MonteLago Resort, featuring various product booths and clinics.

The XTERRA Trail Run World Championship is scheduled for November 24 on the island of Oahu, and more than 2,000 runners from around the world are expected to participate.
