About the cane
An inaugural event, the Cane Creek ORT is the first XTERRA in North Carolina, and has special meaning. From Race Director Tim McCollum: “This event is the result of two significant events in my life that happened last year. In early April of 2004, I participated in my first XTERRA race. The next month my aunt, battling terminal lung cancer, was cared for through a hospice program. After racing a season of XTERRA, I discovered an opportunity to bring XTERRA to my home state. I also realized that through this race I could give back to the charity that touched my life in a personal way. All proceeds for the Cane Creek Off-Road Triathlon will go to the local hospice chapter -- Hospice of Union County - who will be onsite on race day."
