XTERRA Elite Qualification Criteria

ELITE ATHLETE CRITERIA

Women

  1. World Ranking must be equal to, or above 195 points
  2. Finish in the top 5 of a Silver race, or the top 10 in a Gold race with a minimum of 192 points
  3. Win the Overall Age Group in a Silver or Gold race with a minimum of 192 points
  4. Finish in the top 5 of a Gold race or top 3 of a Silver race
  5. Finish in the top 10 overall of all age-groupers at the World Championship (no points restriction)
  6. Finish in the Top 3 in respective Age Group at World Championship and have above 192 points
  7. Ranked in the top 3 in respective country (no points restriction)

Men

  1. World Ranking must be equal to, or above 203 points
  2. Finish in the top 5 in a Silver race, or top 10 in a Gold race with a minimum 198 points
  3. Win the Overall Age Group in a Silver or Gold race with a minimum 198 points
  4. Finish in the top 5 in a Gold race, or top 3 in a Silver race
  5. Finish in the top 10 overall of all age-groupers at the World Championship (no points restriction)
  6. Finish in the Top 3 within their Age Group at the World Championship and above 200 points
  7. Ranked in the top 3 in respective country (no points restriction)

Exceptions - Men & Women

  1. Olympic athletes, no more than 10 years prior
  2. A top ten (10) Elite finisher at the European or World Triathlon Cross Triathlon Championship
    1. The result must be less than 24-months-old
  3. A top three (3) U23 finisher at the European Triathlon or World Triathlon Cross Triathlon Championship, result must be less than24-months-old.
  4. Cross Triathlon Elite (or overall) Federal National Champion, result must be less than 24-months-old.
  5. A top 3 finisher at the European Triathlon Cross Duathlon Championship, result must be less than 24-months-old.
  6. Elite podium finisher for: IM Full Distance or IM 70.3, result must be less than 24-months-old.
  7. Podium finisher at World Triathlon Series, World Triathlon World Cup or MTB World Cup (XC, XCO, XCM, XCC or Cyclo-cross), result must be less than 24-months-old.
  8. Prior XTERRA Elite with strong results, but hasn’t raced during the past 2 years
    1. Decision by XTERRA World Ranking committee
  9. Additional considerations:
    1. A written request from an interested athlete upon which the XTERRA World Ranking committee will decide
    2. A request from an Elite or Professional athlete with significant international results from a discipline not
    mentioned above.
  10. Holders of Elite or Pro triathlon licences from their respective federation.

All the above categories are based on an athlete's request, so athletes must send XTERRA a request showing they entered in one of all categories stated at: elite@xterraplanet.com

ELITES WANTING TO MOVE BACK TO AG (BY REQUEST)

Women

  1. Absent from XTERRA racing for 1 year+
  2. Finish the last 3 races below 195 points
  3. Finish all races of the season below 195 points
  4. Exception: Women 45+ can choose when they want to move back
    to Age Group if they’re under 200 points

Men

  1. Absent from XTERRA racing for 1 year+
  2. Finish the last 3 races below 200 points
  3. Finish all races of the season below 200 points
  4. Exception: Men 50+ can choose when they want to move back to Age Group if they’re under 205 points

ATHLETES SUGGESTED TO MOVE FROM AGE GROUP TO ELITE

  • Male athletes with 207+ points
  • Female athletes with 204+ points
  • Can be an exception for athletes racing only once a year
  • Age Groupers 45+ (W) and 50+ (M) can decide themselves and won’t be forced

ATHLETES SUGGESTED TO MOVE FROM ELITE TO AG

  1. Men ending the season (December 31st) under 195 points
  2. Women ending the season (December 31st) under 190 points

Exceptions

  1. An Olympian
  2. Long injury (doctor's note/prescription required)
  3. Top 3 athletes (XTERRA or National Cross-Triathlon) within their respective country
  4. Having finished on the podium in a Silver race or top 5 in a Gold race over the past 2 years
  5. Scoring ranking points in the World Cup in the last two seasons.
  6. Not having raced XTERRA in the last 24 months, but having above 210 points (M) and 205 (W) prior to the absence
  7. Any special case absent from this list will be reviewed by the XTERRA Performance Index committee (ex: case 3 above)
