Breeder's Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge

XTERRA PodcastAfter a highly successful debut at the XTERRA USA Championships in Lake Tahoe last fall, the Breeder's Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge will be featured at every regional championship race this season and the USA National Championship in Lake Tahoe.

We recognized years ago that our family of athletes loved their pets. Breeder's Choice recognized that our family are the kind of people who sincerely want to feed their dogs the very best product for health and energy. And that started the ball rolling.

“Dogs have always had a special relationship with their care takers and more and more people are including their dogs in their everyday family activities,” said Jim Heim, President of the Pet Division of Central Garden & Pet. “This is a totally unique event that encourages people and their dogs to be active, interact with one another and have fun. The beauty of the K9 Challenge is that anyone can participate. It’s not breed specific or limited to highly trained or specialized dogs.”

K9 Challenge Teeter-TotterThe Breeder's Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge is a fun event for owners and their dogs to compete around an obstacle course for quickest time, meet their friends, make new ones and enjoy an afternoon outdoors. The challenge is a timed event where everyone wins. Breeder's Choice will award the winner, overall fastest time for the K9 Challenge, a year supply of AvoDerm dog food. While we will declare one overall winner, every pet gets rewarded with prizes. The course takes about 30 seconds if it is run quickly. The course starts with a short run, followed by a 90 degree turn and depending on the size of the dog - either a 10' tunnel for our smaller friends or a 3 step walkover for the bigger animals. The rest of the course features a slalom that must be negotiated, a "walk the plank" board that is a few inches off the ground, 4 log jumpovers and the dreaded teeter-totter. The one rule is the dog must be accompanied by its handler and on a leash.

No training or certification is necessary, but owners must show proof of dog's current vaccinations. Bring your family and your pet and give it a go. And don't forget the pooper scoopers...

AvoDerm Dog FoodIn addition to the competition, The Breeder’s Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge will feature free product sampling, professional tips and advice on dog care, coupons and special offers at Petco.
