Find out why Makara Mountain Bike park is the jewel in Wellington’s inner city crown. These tracks are all open and well formed, with a little climbing at the start. They are all a really good intro to XTERRA Trail Running. The tracks are quite protected should the weather be dodgy. You do get nice views from Makara peak, but ensure you pack some warm clothes as it can get chilly on the ridge line.
No matter what course you are doing, be it Short, Medium, or Long, you must carry an Emergency Survival Bag and an Emergency Whistle, both available from Event Registration, Bivouac Stores, or any good tramping shop.
Anybody under 16 is welcome to enter any Short XTERRA event, but they must be accompanied by a fee paying adult who runs WITH THEM for the entire event. No exceptions.
There will be no cash refunds made for this series. However, if for some reason you are unable to participate in an event then your entry fee is transferable to another XTERRA Wellington race within the current series, provided you inform event organisers a week prior to the event date. Individual Entries are transferable between individuals for a $15 transfer fee. Please apply for transfers via email request.
Series Entries are not transferable and not able to be partially refunded if some events are missed.
XTERRA Wellington is an OutdoorsMark certified event and we take your fun and your safety very seriously. We encourage you all to be responsible track users so please plan to take the following with you:
Map, Hydration Pack/Belt, Spare long sleeve base layer (wool or polyprop), Rain proof jacket, Beanie, Gloves, Basic first aid kit.
It can be a bit iffy to refer to Trail Runs in terms of distance because so much depends on the nature of the trail. It’s generally more accurate to talk about the time it takes to complete the course for an average runner:
Short Course: 5km-7km (takes about 40-50 mins)
Medium Course: 10km-14km (takes about 1:15-1:45)
Long Course: 17km-20+km (takes about 1:40-3:00+)
