"Upcycled Athlete" Homewood Middle School Art Project
The “Upcycled Athlete” is a collaborative, community-driven art installation that will debut at the XTERRA North American Championship at Oak Mountain State Park. This large-scale sculpture, crafted from upcycled and repurposed materials, will symbolize endurance, resilience, and sustainability—values central to both XTERRA and its athletes. By partnering with local businesses, environmental organizations, and Homewood Middle School students, this project will generate excitement leading up to the event while fostering a deeper connection between XTERRA, the Birmingham community, and future generations of athletes and environmental stewards. Beyond its artistic and environmental impact, the installation is expected to increase both competitor registration and festival attendance by creating additional layers of engagement, media buzz, and educational programming.
