We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of a race participant from last Saturday’s Oak Mountain event.
The participant experienced an apparent heart attack during the swim leg and was immediately extracted from the water by the water rescue, safety, and medical personnel. They administered treatment and shortly thereafter moved the participant to shore for further care. The on-site team did everything within their power to provide the necessary medical attention before the participant was transported to the nearest local hospital for additional support. Unfortunately, it was confirmed that the participant passed away in the ICU the following day, Sunday, May 19th, at 11:41 AM local time.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the athlete’s family and friends. We will continue to offer our support during this difficult time. We also want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who worked swiftly to provide medical assistance.
