The XTERRA Portugal swim takes place in Lagoa da Alverca, a lagoon that surrounds the village of Golegã for 1500 meters. The start is in the water (single wave). Athletes will swim a 750 meter, exit the water and run approximately 30 meters and then dive back into the water from the bridge to cover the second 750 meter swim. This allows a greater connection with the spectators and provides access to spectacular image opportunities.

The XTERRA Portugal mountain bike course has a preponderant role at approximately 35 km. The bike course begins with about 5km connecting the village of Golegã with the heath hills, a road outside the village next to the agricultural plantations of the region. At km 5, after passing the Almonda river, begins a frenzy of demanding climbs and technical descents that will test the best athletes in the world. This part of the route is composed of more than 10 km of single track, where loose stones rule, making progress very difficult. This is in contrast to the rapid descents where the adrenaline takes over for the athletes and enjoyment for the public!
Run: 10k

The XTERRA Portugal run course has the peculiarity of being totally flat and largely spent among agricultural crops including fields of corn, wheat, sunflower, tomato or vineyards. Nevertheless it becomes the same amazing experience and is quite pleasant and entertaining with natural obstacles like tree trunk passes and zones where the progression is aided by ropes. There's also a tunnel that crosses the national road and pleasant passages between the Tagus River and the Alverca Lagoon!
