RULES & INFO

The information below may be from a previous edition of the event, and is subject to change.

Art. 1 - Conditions of Participation

This race is open to all individuals, both men and women, born in 2004 or earlier:

  • Italian and foreign athletes, regularly affiliated with UISP or UISP-affiliated clubs for the 2024/2025 season, who hold a valid medical certification for competitive athletics as of October 13, 2024.

  • Italian and foreign athletes who are not affiliated with UISP but possess a valid medical certification for competitive athletics as of October 13, 2024.

  • Foreign athletes with a medical certification from their country, compliant with the protocols valid in Italy, and submitted using the specific form provided by the organization.

Please note that failure to meet any of the participation requirements will result in the inability to take part in the event. Participation in the "XTERRA SARDEGNA Trail" implies unconditional acceptance of these regulations.

Registrations from athletes currently serving doping suspensions in any discipline will not be accepted.

The race can also be run in pairs (DUO). Pairs can be male (M), female (F), or mixed (X). In any case, both athletes must meet all the basic requirements stated in this article to participate in the competition.

Art. 2 - DUO Race

Participation in the event is possible in pairs. Pairs can consist of two athletes without restrictions on gender, age, club, or nationality, provided they start, pass through the various checkpoints, and finish together (with a maximum separation of 30 seconds). Both athletes must comply with all the conditions of participation outlined in Article 1 to take part in the race. Pairs will be classified separately in the following categories: male (MDUO), female (FDUO), and mixed (XDUO).

Art. 3 - Semi-Self-Sufficiency of Food and Water

All participants must carry an adequate supply of food and at least 1 liter of water for the entire duration of the race. There will be refreshment and water supply points along the route, as indicated on the maps published on the website. Any form of personal assistance outside of the refreshment points is prohibited. Participants are not allowed to be accompanied along the route by individuals who are not officially registered for the race.

Art. 4 - Environmental Respect

The race takes place in fully protected ecosystems. Athletes, under penalty of disqualification, must exhibit behavior respectful of the natural environment, avoiding littering, picking flowers, or disturbing wildlife. Each participant must carry a personal cup. There will be no plastic cups or non-recyclable materials at the refreshment points. All waste produced must be disposed of and sorted in the designated areas at the refreshment points or in the finish area.

Art. 5 - Registration Conditions

The race takes place in a coastal and mountainous environment, subject to sudden weather changes, including potential thunderstorms, temperature fluctuations, and strong winds. Good physical preparation, appropriate equipment, mountain hiking experience, and prior participation in similar difficulty/distance races are recommended. All participants must present a medical certificate for competitive athletics with the examinations required by Italian regulations, valid at the time of the event. If the medical certificate is not provided or is not valid at the time of the race, the race bib will not be issued.

Foreign athletes must provide their medical certificate using the specific form provided by the organization. Other medical certificates or certificates on forms from other events will not be accepted.

Art. 6 - Registration Procedure

Registration for the event opens on February 1, 2024, via the links on the website, with payment by credit card or bank transfer. Credit card payments may incur additional charges beyond the registration fee. Registration for participants in pairs (DUO) must be done simultaneously.

Art. 7 - Refund of Registration Fees

In the event of race cancellation due to force majeure or the impossibility of starting the event, no refund of the registration fee will be made. No refund of the registration fee will be made if an athlete is unable to participate in the race.

Art. 8 - Race Bib and Timing Chip

Race bibs and timing chips will be distributed on the days and times specified in the event program (see Article 4) upon presentation of a photo ID. The bib must be worn visibly for the entire duration of the event, under penalty of disqualification. The CHIP must be worn on the wrist and allows for automatic registration (at marked points along the route) or manual control (at surprise points) of athlete passages along the route and the formulation of final rankings. At the start, finish, and intermediate checkpoints, each participant must ensure they have been registered. The chip must be returned at the designated area at the end of the race, even by athletes who retire or do not start. The chip is only valid for the XTERRA SARDEGNA Trail for which it was programmed. Failure to return the chip requires the athlete to send it back to Acquademia SSD RL by November 1, 2024. Failure to return the chip will result in a €20 debt with the organization, which reserves the right to charge it to the registration fee for the following year or to seek compensation from the athlete or their sports club. Participants in the DUO formula will have two bibs with the same number and letters A or B, and two chips to verify compliance with the maximum 30-second distance between them at checkpoints.

Art. 9 - Safety and Medical Plan

The organization will draft a safety and medical plan that will be available in the days leading up to the event through links on the website. Each athlete, by participating in the race, agrees to respect the decisions made by rescuers during the management of any emergency that may occur during the event.

Art. 10 - Course Marking

The race course will be clearly marked with single-color ribbons that will be identical for both race distances, as the courses are two concentric loops with coinciding paths except for a short connector needed for the shorter distance. In particular, directional arrows will be placed at intersections, confirmation signs 5 meters after each intersection, and confirmation signs at regular intervals of 200-300 meters along the course. Each athlete will also be provided with a detailed roadbook of the course and an updated GPX track of the course days before the event.

Art. 11 - Start Times, Cut-off Times, and Checkpoints

Art. 12 - Sweep Service

The last participant in each race will be followed by the organization’s "sweep service" staff. This staff has full authority to stop an athlete even if they are not at a time checkpoint, organizing their return to the finish area.

Art. 13 - Withdrawal

If an athlete decides to withdraw from the race along the route, they must, as soon as possible, go to the nearest checkpoint and notify the organization of their withdrawal, which will then arrange for their return to the finish area. Failure to notify withdrawal and the consequent initiation of a search for the runner will result in the runner bearing the resulting costs.

In the event of changes to the course or start time, cut-off times and maximum race times may also be adjusted.

Art. 19 - Insurance

The organization provides extensive insurance coverage for Injuries and Civil Liability for all participants not affiliated with UISP during the entire event period.
