Article 8 – Race Format & Course

The race is done in teams of two, alternating between biking and running with only one bike per team. Teammates may switch roles freely and do not need to stay together at all times.

⚠️ At least one team regrouping zone per lap (where both athletes and the bike must be present) will be designated by the organizers.

Rules during the race:

  • Bike transitions must occur at the saddle, not by placing the bike on the ground.

  • Athletes must obey road traffic laws.

  • Organizers do not manage road traffic. Participants are considered regular road users and are responsible for their own conduct.

The route and elevation are subject to change.

Safety

  • Managed by doctors, rescue teams (FPPC), and firefighters from Teva I Uta.

  • Equipped with 4x4 vehicles and ambulances.

  • Aid stations available on the course.

⚠️ No audio devices allowed (e.g., headphones, MP3 players, radios) during the event.

Markings

  • Directional signs (reusable) and biodegradable ribbon will be used.

  • Volunteers will assist at difficult points.

  • A sweeper team will secure the rear of the race.

Timing checkpoints (manual & electronic via bib chip) will verify full course completion. Missing a checkpoint = disqualification.

Overtaking

  • Slower teams must yield to faster ones upon request.

  • Blocking or obstructing another team is prohibited and can lead to disqualification.

Mandatory Equipment / Gear Checks

  • Bike checks will be carried out pre-race.

  • Non-compliance = start refusal, no refund.

  • Only one mountain bike (MTB) allowed per team.

  • No external assistance or pacing by third parties is allowed, including at the finish line.

  • Help is only permitted between athletes participating in the same event.

Cut-off Times (Time Limits)

To avoid runners being on the course after dark:

  • 7-hour maximum race duration

  • Athletes still on the course after this limit will be withdrawn from the race.

Cut-offs may be adjusted in case of force majeure or safety concerns.

Article 9 – Disqualification & Abandonment

  • No refund in case of disqualification or abandonment.

  • If one teammate quits, the entire team is out.

  • No teammate is allowed to finish alone.

Bib Rules

  • No cutting or modifying bibs with sponsor stickers.

  • Bibs must be worn on the front of the body at all times.

Course Respect

  • Shortcuts or deviations from the course = disqualification.

  • Runners are responsible for knowing the official route.

  • Unmarked sections are not a valid excuse for taking a shortcut.

Officials or volunteers can disqualify athletes for rule violations or unsportsmanlike behavior.

Abandonment must be reported immediately to a volunteer, medic, or aid station.
Runners not returning on their own will be evacuated by rescue teams.

An emergency number will be printed on each bib.

Article 10 – Mandatory & Recommended Equipment

Mandatory (per team unless stated otherwise):

  • Rigid shell helmet with chin strap (each teammate)

  • Bib attached to front of MTB

  • Bib for each teammate worn on front of body

  • Emergency blanket (per team)

  • Whistle (often included in hydration packs)

Article 11 – Aid Stations & Drop Zones

  • Bring your own reusable cup or hydration pack

No plastic or cardboard cups will be provided

Drop Zones:
Designated waste disposal areas at aid stations for trash (e.g., gel wrappers).
⚠️ Littering = disqualification

Article 12 – Insurance

Organizers are insured for civil liability (Generali policy #58228666D).
Each participant competes under their own responsibility and waives any claim against the organizers.

All participants are strongly encouraged to have personal liability, repatriation, and rescue insurance.

Bib transfer is strictly prohibited.
Transferring your bib releases the organizers from responsibility in case of accident, and both the original registrant and recipient may be held liable.

Unauthorized participation (e.g., without a bib) also entails full responsibility in case of incident.

Article 13 – Safety / Assistance

Athletes are the first line of safety.
In case of an accident, you must help and immediately contact race HQ or an organizer (emergency number on bib).

Medical staff, sweepers, referees, or the race committee may force a team to abandon in case of weather danger, physical inability, or misconduct.

If a team abandons the race without notifying organizers, and rescue teams are sent to search, they may be held financially responsible.

Article 14 – Claims

Claims must be submitted within one hour of finishing.
They must be written, signed, and accompanied by a 10,000 XPF deposit.

If the claim is upheld, the deposit is returned.
Otherwise, it is kept by VSOP XO to support sport development in Moorea.

No claims will be accepted based on hearsay.

Article 15 – Penalties

The race follows the rules of the Tahitian Triathlon Federation (FTTri).
Arbitration is under the authority of the Head Referee and assistants. See full regulations on [FTTri website].

Sanctions include (non-exhaustive):

  • Course violation => disqualification

  • Bib not worn => start refusal / DQ

  • Unsportsmanlike behavior / foul language => DQ

  • Outside assistance => DQ
