The award-winning trails of Oak Mountain State Park are set to host one of the biggest events on the 2025 calendar. This three-day festival will feature Stop #4 of the XTERRA World Cup, live-broadcast Short Track racing, the 2025 North American Championship, and the inaugural Youth North American Championship for athletes aged 14–19. Expect food, music, and the vibrant energy of the XTERRA community at a race location that is second to none.

The XTERRA North American Championship weekend of events includes live coverage of the exciting new XTERRA Short Track off-road triathlon format, plus full-distance and shorter off-road triathlons alongside a fun kids' triathlon.
“We are thrilled to welcome the XTERRA World Cup and North American Championship to Oak Mountain State Park,” said Kendall Williams, Shelby County Manager for tourism and events. “We take great pride in our parks and county, and look forward to showing athletes from all over the world what true Southern hospitality is all about.”
As part of the XTERRA triathlon World Cup, Oak Mountain will serve as the fourth stop in the global series of events that will award $340,000 to XTERRA’s fastest professional athletes. Both the full-distance off-road triathlon and the showcase Short Track events award points to elite athletes chasing the series cash and crown. And for amateurs in the XTERRA North American Championship full-distance triathlon, there are 58 qualifying spots into the XTERRA World Championship triathlon to be held September 27, 2025, in Trentino, Italy.
Surrounding the racing action is a family-friendly festival focused on delivering a premium outdoor lifestyle experience for athletes, spectators, destinations, and community members alike featuring live music, beer gardens, food trucks, kids races, and more.
The XTERRA Youth Tour is designed to nurture the future champions of XTERRA, providing a platform for young talent to build strength and experience on off-road terrains around the world, and the chance to compete against the world’s best at the XTERRA Youth World Championship.
The XTERRA North American Championship Super Sprint and sprint distances are proud to be qualifiers for the XTERRA Youth World Championship, as well as host the North American Youth Championship. The Super Sprint distance will be a Youth A qualifier while the Sprint distance will be the Youth B and Junior qualifier.

Stick around for the Good People Brewing Post-Race Concert featuring The Stepdads, a local string band that blurs the lines between bluegrass, heirloom country, and upbeat blues music. This is a free concert open to the community of Shelby County, so bring your friends and family along for the fun!
"Upcycled Athlete" Homewood Middle School Art Project
The “Upcycled Athlete” is a collaborative, community-driven art installation that will debut at the XTERRA North American Championship at Oak Mountain State Park. This large-scale sculpture, crafted from upcycled and repurposed materials, will symbolize endurance, resilience, and sustainability—values central to both XTERRA and its athletes. By partnering with local businesses, environmental organizations, and Homewood Middle School students, this project will generate excitement leading up to the event while fostering a deeper connection between XTERRA, the Birmingham community, and future generations of athletes and environmental stewards. Beyond its artistic and environmental impact, the installation is expected to increase both competitor registration and festival attendance by creating additional layers of engagement, media buzz, and educational programming.

The Oak Mountain Interpretive Center will share an educational program highlighting the native species with “scales & tails” that can be found in Oak Mountain State Park. The Interpretive Center is Oak Mountain State Park's hub for educational programs, Park Naturalist headquarters, and interactive exhibit hall
Alabama Wildlife Center Raptor Show
The Alabama Wildlife Center will share an educational program highlighting the native bird species that can be found at Oak Mountain State Park. The mission for AWC’s Education Programs is focused on building a connection between the people and the wild birds of Alabama. The Wildlife Center aims to help educate the public on Alabama’s native wild birds and AWC’s role in wildlife conservation.
XTERRA Talk "Upcycled Athlete" by Homewood Middle School
Homewood Middle School teacher Ryan Murrell will have a 15-20 minute opportunity to take the stage at Oak Mountain State Park to talk about the “Upcycled Athlete” project that the art program at Homewood Middle School has been creating with donated triathlon gear the past two months.

Only full distance individual triathletes from within the North American region will be in contention to be crowned as the 2025 XTERRA North American Regional Champion. The country of nationality indicated during the registration process should align with the country that issued the athlete's passport.
