The 2025 World Cup, decided in less than 40 minutes. A fast and furious battle for the final points of the season, delivering a barnburner show that settled the series beneath the staggering Dolomite Mountains.

With the World Championship no longer part of the World Cup circuit, the series was, for the first time, decided in a Short Track showdown. And few places could have delivered a better finale. The Trentino course is known for rapid-fire position changes, with both the 2023 and 2024 editions decided by a second or less. This was where it all came down to one last race, one final fight for points.

For the men, razor-thin margins ahead of the race meant even the slightest mistake could cost the season. For the women, it was a victory lap for Marta Menditto, who had already carved out an unassailable lead. But with podium spots still in play, there was everything to race for.

And race they did, with the lead changing frequently through the bike section in both the women’s and men’s races, before the roadies showed their speed in the final leg.

Loanne Duvoisin and Sullivan Middaugh Win Short Track Finale

In the final battle of the series, it was the roadies who brought their speed into the off-road arena to close out the World Cup series in Trentino.

In the women’s race, Loanne Duvoisin looked strong from the start, systematically working her way to the front, taking the lead on the run, and never looking back as she took the tape ahead of Solenne Billouin and Isla Hedley. In the men’s race, Sullivan Middaugh returned to the site of his iconic 2024 win to deliver another unbeatable performance, albeit with a little more breathing room this time, dropping the hammer on the run to close out the show ahead of a charging Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen and Arthur Serrières.

Short Track - Story of the Race

Snowcapped Dolomites set the scene for the final battle of the 2025 XTERRA World Cup pro series.
The women opened the show, with Marta Menditto taking to the line with the title already secured.
For the rest of the women’s field, the fight for podium places was still wide open.
Britain’s Isla Hedley set the early pace, exiting the water in 00:05:59.
For the men, it was a nervous start with an all-star lineup of the fastest off-road triathletes on the planet and razor-thin margins separating those at the top of the series.
Local hero Federico Spinazzè led the field, clocking the fastest swim in 00:05:31.
Onto the bike, a four-way battle quickly formed in the women’s race between Hedley, Duvoisin, Grabmüller, and Billouin, with the lead changing hands multiple times.
Meanwhile, Maxim Chané and Felix Forissier worked to close the gap to Spinazzè at the front of the men’s race.
Loanne Duvoisin rode the women’s 8K course fastest, completing all four loops in 00:17:51 to enter T2 in the lead.
But a slick transition from Grabmüller and Hedley pushed Duvoisin back to third, with the Czech and the Brit taking charge.
No one rode the men’s course faster than Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen, completing the bike in 00:15:46 to join the leaders out front.
Out of T2 first, it was Sullivan Middaugh who now led the charge, with Sloth Nielsen, Chané, and Forissier opening the gas to close the gap.
Anna Zehnder blitzed the run in 00:10:42, taking the fastest women’s split of the day.
But it was Duvoisin who had full control in the final discipline, running a 00:10:43 to take the gold in the final race of the series.
Sloth Nielsen ran a blistering 00:09:07 to post the fastest men’s split, but it wasn’t enough to catch Sullivan Middaug, who made it two for two on the Trentino Short Track course.

WORLD CUP Series Info

The XTERRA World Cup is the world's premier off-road triathlon pro series, where the sport’s top elites go head-to-head in a condensed circuit of Full Distance and Short Track races. A points-based battle where every turn, climb, and descent matters, each race is a fight for a share of the series prize purse and the pursuit of becoming the next XTERRA World Cup Champion.

The 2026 World Cup features seven stops and eleven races across Oceania, Europe, North America, and Asia. The Joker Rule returns, giving each athlete one Full Distance joker and one Short Track joker to help manage the demands of global travel and reduce the impact of mechanicals. Each race awards points to the top 30 finishers, with a standard Full Distance win earning 100 points and Short Track awarding 75. Stakes rise at the biggest events, with Regional Championships offering 1.2x more points and the series finale offering 1.5x.

In 2026, the series finishes on fresh terrain in Suzhou, China, where Pan Men Square becomes a city-centre stage for the final Short Track showdown before the Full Distance battle around Lake Taihu closes out the season and crowns the next XTERRA World Cup Champions.
