The XTERRA Grabouw mountain bike route has become iconic and much revered by XTERRA enthusiasts globally.
The figure of 8 design consists of a 20km loop, followed by a 10km loop. The course has been carefully designed (and many sections specifically built) by Conrad Stoltz to allow the optimal mix of Jeep track, single track, climbs and downhills in order to create a testing but fun riding experience.
What makes Grabouw unique is its white sandstone rock formations and sandy patches, and tons of single track - which makes this ride quite a challenge, despite it “only" being 30km and sporting a flattish profile. (580m vertical gain)
The “Piece de resistance” is a super rocky, technical downhill section called The Rock Garden, I’d advise you download the GPX file and practice on the course in your preparation for the event. You can also hire a guide at Trails End Bike Hotel. The trail will be fully marked and ready to ride a week before the event.
