Key Cross Triathlon Rules for Mountain Biking:
The minimum tyre diameter is 26 inches, and the maximum is 29 inches. The minimum cross-section is 1.5 inches.
Front and rear wheels may have different diameters.
Studded and/or slick tyres are allowed.
Competitors are allowed to push or carry the bike over the course.
Drafting is allowed for same race category and also different race category competitors. For safety reasons, there may be ‘no passing’ zones on the course. Lapped competitors will not be removed from the race.
Clip-ons aero bars are not allowed.
Traditional road/dropped handlebars are forbidden.
Traditional MTB bar ends are authorised. Ends must be plugged.
Athletes must bring their own tools and parts and must carry out their own repairs
Cyclocross/Gravel bikes are forbidden unless they comply with the above criteria.
In 2025, we set ourselves the goal of a race course with zero plastic tape - it doesn't look great, and often, single-use nature means a fair bit of waste. In 2026, we're doing it again, taking on feedback from last year's event with regard to making turns clearer and reducing opportunities for shortcuts (deliberate or not!). We'll be using flags, rope, banners and reusable fencing across the course to keep you on track.
Both the bike and the run course will be marked using large arrows and survey flags.
Blue = Bike Course
Red = Run Course
We will use CAUTION signs to alert you to any technical sections.

If you need to withdraw from the race for any reason, then please check in with one of our marshals to communicate: a) that you are OK & b) to confirm your DNF. Please don't leave the venue without letting us know, as we'll have to go and look for you in the woods!
