The Youth A & Kids Triathlon is a fun, confidence-building off-road triathlon for young athletes up to 15, giving kids their own taste of adventure on the trails. Featuring the same swim, bike, and run disciplines as the adult races but with shorter distances and less technical terrain, it's the perfect gateway into off-road triathlon. This is the it's the ideal introduction to off-road racing in one of Victoria's best adventure playgrounds.

All kids are welcome to participate. Whilst we will award prizes to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category the event is conducted so that everyone is recognised and celebrated no matter how fast or slow they are.

This is a Youth World Championship Qualifier race. Slots will be offered to the top 5 male and female athletes of the following Youth Divisions:

  • Youth A: 14yrs and 15yrs male and female

Rules & Info

Course key elements

  • 3 different wave starts to separate the older / stronger kids, from the younger ones:

    • STARTS:

      • 12:00pm   Youth A (15yrs and 14yrs) individual - boys and girls

      • 12:05pm 12yrs & 13yrs individual boys and girls   

        11yrs - 12yrs - 13yrs - 14yrs - 15yrs relay teams, plus

      • 12:10pm   10yrs & 11yrs individual boys and girls

      • 12:15pm Under 10yrs individual boys and girls

                     Under 11yrs relay teams

  • The course for all legs is clearly marked and kids can follow it unguided – adding to the sense of accomplishment by completing it themselves.

  • The run and ride legs are not technical and should be fun and achievable for kids of all ages

  • Marshals will be located at key points around the course and a medical team onsite to provide assistance if needed.

XTERRA Super Sprint Distance categories

The following categories will be recognised at the XTERRA Super Sprint distance off-road triathlon:

Individuals Solo competitors who complete the entire course alone:

  • Youth A (15yrs and 14yrs) individual - boys and girls. XTERRA Youth A World Qualifier (see below)

  • 12yrs & 13yrs individual - boys and girls

  • 10yrs & 11yrs individual - boys and girls

  • Under 10yrs individual boys and girls

Relay Teams of up to 3. (A relay team with either 2 or 3 competitors who divide the course between them)

  • 11yrs - 12yrs - 13yrs - 14yrs - 15yrs relay teams - open (any gender mix)

  • Under 11yrs relay teams - open (any gender mix)

XTERRA Youth and Junior World Championship qualification

XTERRA conduct a Junior World Championship event alongside their adult world championships. This is open to juniors who have qualified by competing in one of their recognised qualification events - such as the XTERRA Anglesea Super Sprint Distance triathlon (or Sprint triathlon for youth aged over 15yrs). This is a terrific opportunity for any junior triathlete. The format and qualification requirements are fully explained on the XTERRA website here

RACE RULES

The organisers Rapid Ascent have sole discretion to alter or amend the event format or the rules in order to increase the safety to participants or for any other reason deemed appropriate.

The rules of the event are as follows:

  • (all participants) must read and sign the Participant Indemnity.

  • (juniors only - i.e. under 18 on race day)

  • must have their parent or guardian advise the organisers, Rapid Ascent, of their intention to enter

  • parent or guardian must read and sign an authorisation and indemnity

  • (swimmers) must be able to swim 1,500m unassisted in open water.

  • Wetsuits are OPTIONAL for ALL events and age categories. The expected water temp is approx 19 degrees

  • Participants must wear competitor identification number plates/tattoos as outlined in the event program

  • Competitors must use the same bike frame and wheels for the entire bike leg. You may receive assistance from other competitors to repair your bike. Penalty for using someone else’s bike frame or wheels and for lending your own bike frame or wheels to another competitor is 60 minutes for the borrower and 60 minutes for the lender.

  • Assistance provided by other competitors is permitted, but is limited to the provision of, drinks, nutrition, pumps, tires, inner tubes, puncture repair kits, and the repair of equipment for safety. Athletes may provide to other athletes competing in the same competition items of equipment, provided that the donor is able to continue with their own competition.

  • No riding is permitted in the TA and helmets must be fastened before exiting the TA.

  • Any competitor who withdraws from the race MUST notify an official. This is an essential requirement to avoid unnecessary searches being conducted and emergency services being engaged.

  • Failure to abide by rules may result in time penalty or disqualification.

  • All entrants are permitted to lodge protests against results or decisions enforced during the event. A judging panel of three Rapid Ascent Directors will adjudicate on all protests and other contentious matters, and their decision will be final.
