The Sprint Triathlon at XTERRA Costa Rica is a race of 750 meters of swimming, 13.5 km of mountain biking and 7km of running through spectacular and challenging trails. This race is ideal for those new to triathlon and for people looking for a less demanding XTERRA experience. This race will also serve as the Youth B and Junior qualifier for the XTERRA Youth World Championship.

The XTERRA Youth Tour provides a clear path for the many young athletes who begin their triathlon journey on a mountain bike to continue racing competitively within the sport of cross-tri and to compete for the title of XTERRA Youth World Champion. A natural stepping stone to the XTERRA World Tour, the Youth Tour offers youth triathletes an array of qualifying races around the world, where top age group athletes are awarded slots to compete on the biggest stage of them all at the XTERRA Youth World Championship.
In alignment with national federations and World Triathlon, XTERRA Costa Rica will offer 5 XTERRA Youth World Championship slots awarded to the top 5 male and female athletes in the Youth B and Junior Youth Divisions.
Youth B (aged 16-17) qualifying and championship races are contested within the Sprint distance
Junior (aged 18-19) qualifying and championship races are also contested within the Sprint distance. Athletes over 18 years of age may choose to participate in Full Distance races, however, the Junior World Championship will be contested as a Sprint Distance race.

Triathlon License
Foreign athletes will have to pay for a one-day license during the registration process.
National athletes must use their national federation license.

Based on Feutri Categories criteria
For a category to be open there must be a minimum of five people registered. If the minimum of eight persons is not reached; the persons registered in the categories that do not meet the minimum criteria of participants will be placed in the next lower category.
To establish the age of the category, the age on December 31 of the event year must be considered.
