A return to the wild South West.

A return down under to last year’s debut destination. Starting the series in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean before the signature pea gravel trails take over. Where elevation lacks, speed takes over. And the faster you ride it, the harder it gets.

Forissier and Menditto Find the Fastest Way Through in Australia

It was not the race anyone expected, with a tropical cyclone in the region bringing choppy waters and wet trails to the usually hot, dry terrain of Southwest Australia. After a tentative start through unpredictable swells in Geographe Bay, Italy’s Marta Menditto and France’s Arthur Forissier see their names atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2026 World Cup.

Working back from a deficit of more than two minutes after the swim, Menditto pushed hard on the bike to enter the final transition in the lead, holding enough pace on the run to stay ahead of Maeve Kennedy and Emma Ducreux in second and third. Meanwhile, Arthur Forissier dug deep after a heavy spill on the bike, still managing the fastest run split of the day to claim the win ahead of Federico SpinazzĂŠ and Michele Bonacina.

After 02:25:34 of racing for Forissier and 02:48:52 for Menditto, both walk away with maximum points and the golden jersey as the World Cup moves toward the trails of Greece for stop two of the series.
