For visitors unfamiliar with the area, here’s how to get to Oak Mountain State Park efficiently:
1. By Car
• From Birmingham (20 miles away): Take I-65 South to Exit 246 (Cahaba Valley Road/AL-119). Turn left onto AL-119, then right onto Oak Mountain Park Road. Follow signs to the park entrance.
• From Atlanta (140 miles away): Take I-20 West to I-459 South. Merge onto I-65 South and follow the directions above.
• From Montgomery (80 miles away): Take I-65 North to Exit 246 and follow the directions above.
2. By Air
• Fly into Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), about 30 minutes from the park. From the airport, rent a car or use a rideshare service to reach the park.
3. Public Transportation
• Public transportation options are limited. The easiest alternative is to use a rideshare app like Uber or Lyft to get to the park from the Birmingham area.
4. Car Rentals or Rideshares
• If flying in, consider renting a car at the airport or scheduling a rideshare service directly to the park.
Park Tip:
Once inside the park, note that it’s sprawling with activities and trails. A vehicle is helpful to navigate between different areas like the marina, campgrounds, and trails.
